Common Questions

We recommend booking your gorilla trekking permit at least 3-6 months in advance for peak season (June-September and December-February). During low season, 2-3 months is usually sufficient. Permits are limited to 8 people per gorilla family per day, so they sell out quickly.

You should be able to walk 3-4 hours on uneven, steep terrain at moderate altitude. The trek duration varies from 1-7 hours depending on the gorilla family's location. Porters are available to carry your daypack and provide assistance on steep sections. We recommend doing some walking exercises before your trip.

Uganda is a year-round destination, but the dry seasons (June-September and December-February) are best for gorilla trekking and game viewing. Roads are more passable, vegetation is thinner, and trails are less muddy. Wet seasons offer lower prices and fewer crowds.

Most international visitors need a visa. Uganda offers an e-visa system (visas.immigration.go.ug) and the East African Tourist Visa ($100) covers Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya. We recommend applying at least 2 weeks before your trip.

A yellow fever vaccination is required for entry into Uganda. We also recommend hepatitis A, typhoid, and ensuring your routine vaccinations are up to date. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended. Consult your travel clinic at least 6 weeks before departure.
