Tour Itinerary
#Day 1: Entebbe to Queen Elizabeth NP via the Equator & Sunset Game Drive
Your adventure begins early as your professional driver-guide picks you up in Entebbe. Journey southwest through rolling hills toward the Uganda Equator. Here, stop for photo opportunities, water flow demonstrations proving the Coriolis effect, and a hot cup of Ugandan coffee.
Continue onward into the vast savannahs of Queen Elizabeth National Park, framed by the dramatic Rwenzori Mountains. After checking into your lodge, set out on an evening sunset game drive across the Kasenyi plains. Keep your camera ready for herds of elephants, cape buffaloes, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, and elusive predators like lions and leopards on the hunt.
Accommodation Options in Queen Elizabeth NP:
Luxury: Kyambura Gorge Lodge
A premier high-end eco-lodge set on the edge of the gorge, featuring individual luxury bandas, a swimming pool, and a spa.
Mid-Range: Enganzi Game Lodge Limited
- Nestled on a hilltop bordering the park with wooden cottages overlooking the savanna floor.
- Warm hospitality, local cuisine, and comfortable ensuite rooms.
#Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking at Kyambura Gorge & Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise
Start your morning with an early breakfast before descending into Kyambura Gorge—an underground tropical rainforest sunken into the savanna floor, often called the "Valley of Apes." Guided by expert rangers, track habituated wild chimpanzees as they swing through the high canopy and call out across the gorge.
In the afternoon, head to the famed Kazinga Channel for a 2-hour boat safari. Sail meters away from bathing elephants, Nile crocodiles, and hundreds of bird species along the water's edge.
Accommodation:
- Return to your selected lodge (Kyambura Gorge Lodge, Enganzi Game Lodge) for dinner and relaxation.
#Day 3: Tree-Climbing Lions of Ishasha & Transfer to Bwindi
After breakfast, check out and travel through the southern ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This region is world-renowned for its rare tree-climbing lions, which lounge lazily in the branches of fig trees to escape the heat and ground insects.
Enjoy a game drive through the fig-tree-studded savannahs before ascending into the misty highlands of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Arrive at your lodge in time to unwind and prepare for the gorilla trekking experience tomorrow.
Accommodation Options in Bwindi:
Luxury: Mahogany Springs Lodge
- Sophisticated suites with breathtaking forest canopy views, gourmet dining, and private terraces along the river.
Mid-Range: Buhoma Community Haven Lodge
- Spacious, eco-friendly cottages offering elevated views over the forest canopy while directly supporting community development.
#Day 4: Highlight of the Trip: Mountain Gorilla Trekking & Optional Batwa Experience
Today is the absolute highlight of your African safari. After an early briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers, step into the ancient UNESCO-listed rainforest in search of a family of wild mountain gorillas.
Once located, spend one unforgettable hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat—watching juveniles play, mothers groom their infants, and the massive dominant Silverback keep guard.
In the late afternoon, opt for an immersive cultural encounter with the local Batwa indigenous community. Learn about their ancestral hunter-gatherer traditions, medicinal forest plants, traditional music, and storytelling.
Accommodation:
Spend your final safari night relaxing at your Bwindi lodge (Mahogany Springs Lodge, Buhoma Community Haven Lodge).
#Day 5: Scenic Drive Back to Kampala / Entebbe
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast surrounded by the sound of birds in the jungle canopy before embarking on your return overland journey. Travel through the terrace-farmed Kigezi Highlands, known as the "Switzerland of Africa," stopping for lunch along the route.
Arrive back in Kampala or Entebbe by late afternoon or early evening, bringing an end to an unforgettable 5-day Uganda wildlife adventure.
